APIs and AI

What an API is, and why it matters now that AI does the work.

What is an API?

An API is a way for one piece of software to use another directly, with no person in between. A screen is built for a person to read and click. An API is the same system built for software: a program asks whether the Camden sofa is free on the 14th, in a form it can send, and gets an answer back in a form it can read. The letters stand for application programming interface. The idea is a door made for software rather than for hands.

Why does an API matter now that there is AI?

ChatGPT and Claude can now do real work rather than only describe it: check a calendar, hold pieces, write a quote. They can only work with what they can reach. Staging software that is only a screen leaves your AI outside it, so it advises and then somebody copies its answer into the system by hand. With an API, your AI reads your actual inventory and makes the change itself, inside your rules, recorded under its name. Without one, the best assistant there is works from last week's export.

Does other home staging software have an API?

Mostly not. Of the home staging systems we checked in September 2026, most publish no API at all, and the one that sells access keeps it on its enterprise plan, priced through sales. We found no other home staging product that ChatGPT or Claude can connect to directly. VeraStaged includes its API in the $99 plan for every company, and the screens your team uses work through the same commands your AI does, so anything a person can do here, their AI can do too.

What routine work can my AI take over?

Anything your team does here, from inventory to billing: the Monday check of what is still sitting at closed listings, the list of what goes out on the truck tomorrow, the quote for a room you have staged a hundred times, the charges at the end of the month. Anyone on the plan can hand those to their ChatGPT or Claude, and it does them against your real records.

Do I need a developer to connect my AI?

No. Claude connects with a sign-in. A Custom GPT takes one key made on the Company screen. The setup page has the block to copy, and it takes about ten minutes.

Can my AI do something I would not allow?

No. An assistant acts for one of your people and can do only what that person's role allows, so one given a warehouse key can move furniture and cannot see what a project sold for. You can also set some things a role does to wait for somebody else to agree, and that holds whether the person does it or their assistant does.

The software

What staging companies ask before they move their warehouse onto it.

What is home staging software?

Software for running a home staging company: the furniture and decor you own, where each piece is, which project it is booked to, the trucks that move it, the quotes and the bills. Most staging companies run on a spreadsheet and a group text instead, which works until the day two people promise the same sofa.

What does VeraStaged cover?

Inventory, availability and holds, trucks and movement, projects and rooms, quotes, billing, contacts and pipeline, damage, and reporting. One product, on your team's screens and open to your AI.

Do I have to relabel my inventory?

No. The barcodes, QR codes and RFID tags already on your furniture work from the first scan, and one piece can carry several of them. There is no tag, printer or scanner to buy from us.

Can a piece be double-booked?

No. Two overlapping holds on the same piece are refused outright, whether they come from a screen, your AI, an import or a script.

Can I move over from a spreadsheet or another system?

Yes. Send the export from whatever you run today and see what it will produce before anything is written. Rows that fail come back together with their line numbers, and the labels already on your furniture come across with the rows.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. It is built for a phone in a warehouse aisle, on a truck, or in an empty house, and scan boxes take a sticker number without autocorrecting it.

How much does it cost?

$99 a month for every user, every piece and every feature, including the connection your AI uses. Nothing is billed while the open public beta runs, and early adopters who write to us get two years free, counted from the day billing starts.

Does it contact my clients?

It does not email or text your clients on your behalf. It records what happened with your furniture and your projects, and the conversation with your clients stays yours.

Can I get my data out?

Yes. Everything you entered comes back out through the same connection your AI uses. There is no export tier and no leaving fee.
